What if effectiveness and kindness could actually reinforce one another?

Imagine a workplace where productivity does not compromise our humanity. Where shared power enables healthy conflict and enhances creative tension.

In this interactive session, we will explore Sociocracy, a consent‑based peer governance system based on three pillars that define a different way of working together:

  • distributed authority
  • consent‑based decision‑making
  • embedded feedback loops

Participants will leave with a sense of possibility and a list of practical resources to support continued learning and experimentation beyond the session.

Maheen Shafiabady, MSOD, helps human-centered leaders interested in a new way of working to harness the capacity and power of individuals for innovation and collaboration through distributed decision-making systems. An organization development practitioner, she sees sociocracy as a clear method for building compassionate and productive teams.

Sociocracy found Maheen when she consulted for a CEO who wished to embed it across the organization. She is now a Certified Practitioner, soon-to-be-Certified Facilitator, and is currently increasing her comprehension and application in Sociocracy for All’s Academy Level 2.

Maheen holds an MS, Organization Development from the Univ. of San Francisco; BS, Communication & Education–Univ. of Illinois; and currently serves as President for the Bay Area Organization Development Network.
